Camellia Japonica – Purple Dawn

A reliable and easily grown shrub Purple Dawn Camellia, also known as  ‘Mathotiana’, Mathotiana Rubra, Purple Emperor, Purple Prince among others is prized for its bold beautiful large, formal double dark purplish- deep pink- flowers that look as though they’ve been spray painted with a purplish tinge around the edges. The purple cast appears more evident as the blooms age. Blooms continue well into spring and are wonderful for cutting.

Moderate to tall growing with an upright habit of growth approximately to 8-10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, Purple Dawn Camellia makes a strong presence in a garden used as an Accent, Hedge, Border Plant,  in Group Plantings, and in Containers.
