Dwarf Kurenai jishi – Acer Palmatum

Small maple (Red Lion Japanese Maple), often referred to as “the red Shishigashira”, that leaf’s out in the early spring as a deep full red with brighter colored new growth on a mid-sized twisted leaf adding a unique texture to the landscape, container, or rock garden. During the summer, the leaves may be green-red to dark green. The leaves on this maple are tightly compact and dense around a thick stem and a large trunk giving this dwarf a supremely dignified appearance.

Average Height: 4.5 to 5 feet in 10 years

Average Spread: 3 to 4 feet

Sun: Sun to part sun

Water: Prefers consistent moisture

Maintenance: Low

Seasonal Interest: Extraordinary new red and purple growth in the spring.  Fall color is shades of yellows and oranges.
