Red Dragon – Acer Palmatum
This graceful small maple holds its deep purple-red color in shade better than any other red dissectum. Its growth habit is like a more dwarfed form of Crimson Queen and is a compact, well-branched cascading mound, reaching around 8 foot. The deep dissection of the beautiful leaves produces an attractive lacy appearance. Red Dragon emerges in the spring bright scarlet in color, becoming a rich dark burgundy as they develop in summer, transitioning to an outstanding bright fiery apple red/scarlet in the fall. The tree creates a stunning focal point or accent for lightly shaded gardens, patios, entryways, and rock gardens, and is ideal for containers or as a bonsai plant.
