Shishio Improved – Acer Palmatum

Shishio Improved – Acer Palmatum

Also known as “Chishio Improved” this delightful, graceful maple is a vigorous, multi-branched small-leaved cultivar maturing over time in an upright, rounded vase shaped form. It has brilliant spring foliage color with leaves emerging in a bright and showy bright, pink-toned crimson red. As the season progresses the leaves shift to being redder, then eventually, by mid-summer, turn to a quality bright green. Fall color consists of interesting shades of pink and red turning to vibrant shades of red and orange. Bark on new young stems is red on top. Small reddish flowers in spring are somewhat attractive up close but are not showy from a distance. To highlight its magnificence and beauty, Shishio Improved is best used in the landscape as a focal point specimen and also  adapts well to container growing and bonsai culture.
