Twombly’s Red Sentinel - Acer P
Discovered as a witches broom on the popular ‘Bloodgood’ this Maple features the same attractive, rich burgundy foliage, but offers a smaller, upright, and more columnar narrow form. Foliage leafs out in the early spring as a bright crimson red, darkens as it ages to a deeper maroon, and turns a brilliant scarlet in the fall. Bare stems darken to blood red in winter. ‘Twombly’s Red Sentinel’ holds its color all year in many climates and well into the year even in hot climates, tolerating full sun in our region. An ideal tree for narrow spaces, patios, and entryways
