Butterfly – Matsumarae Variegated
An enchanting, small- leaved variegate, compact upright tree with a dense shrubby form and twiggy growth. It remains small and compact for many years, eventually growing 6 to 12 feet tall, so this is a perfect option for smaller gardens, for making a statement in a large container or also trained to be a unique bonsai tree. Adapted for growing beneath larger trees it has exquisite crisp white margins on its narrow 5 fingered leaves and a constantly changing spectacle of colors – pink, white, grey-green, scarlet, and magenta – through the seasons. In spring the new leaves have a delicate pink edge turning to pure-white as the leaves expand and mature, with the center of the leaf becoming a handsome grey-green. In fall the white edge turns vibrant shades of scarlet and magenta, creating a unique fall effect not seen in any other Japanese maple
