Hime Shojo – Acer Palmatum
Extremely compact, dense, full, and multi-stemmed rare dwarf. ‘Hime’ means that the tree has smaller leaves, while ‘shojo’ describes its deep maroon summer color. The small delicate leaves are made up of 5 narrow fingers, and new growth emerges as a bright cherry red in the early spring and then turns to a deeper red burgundy as the season progresses. In full sun, and even in more shaded areas, this maple will retain its red color very well. During the fall, the foliage turns to an even darker shade of maroon. An excellent to add vibrant color to small places and rock gardens and its miniature size lends itself to container planting or even a dramatic bonsai.
