A true annual plant is a plant that completes its life cycle, from germination, to flowering to the production of seeds, within one growing season. Simply put, annual plants die at season end and must thus be replanted every year. Their ultimate goal is to reproduce themselves (set seed), and most annuals will flower like mad until this mission is achieved. If you regularly dead head faded blooms to prevent this seed formation many annuals will then increase their flower production and continue to bloom profusely until the first frost arrives.

If you want bold, bright, vibrant colors, lots of blooms and instant impact and gratification to beautify your yard and containers, then annual flowers are the answer! In addition, they also attract pollinators, bringing new life to your garden. While annuals only last a season, they mature faster and are a good complement to perennials, the latter of which return year after year. Planting them both will help you attain a well-rounded and attractive garden.
