Azaleas

Encore® Azaleas

ENCORE – “a reappearance or additional performance demanded by an audience.”

Developed by Robert E. “Buddy” Lee, a plantsman from Independence, Louisiana the genesis of the Encore Project happened in the early 1980s as a result of the planned cross hybridization between traditional spring-blooming azaleas and Rhododendron oldhamii ‘Fourth of July’, a rare Taiwanese summer-blooming azalea.

Today Encore Azaleas are the world’s best-selling and most popular azalea. These versatile evergreen shrubs are cultivar shrubs in the Ericaceae (blueberry) family that typically grow to around 2 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. The cultivars, developed to be true multi-season bloomers, produce rich colorful blooms in the summer and fall together with very impressive blooms in the spring, hence their now familiar name ENCORE.

Encore Azaleas have NUMEROUS varieties of bloom colors and sizes to choose from and,  unlike any other azalea in the world, thrive equally well in filtered shade or sunny locations.
