Aconitifolium Fern Leaf – Acer Japonicum
Common name Full Moon Maple this is a dwarf, mounded multi-stemmed spreading small tree or large shrub often growing in a multi-trunked form. Small purplish-red flowers in pendulous corymbs appear in early spring (April) before the leaves. It then features palmate, almost fern-like medium green leaves which are deeply divided into 9-11 toothed and cut lobes. Leaves turn yellow, orange, and red in fall. Each rounded leaf purportedly resembles a full moon, hence the common name: Full Moon.

Amber Ghost – Acer Palmatum
With its semi pendulous habit Amber Ghost is one of the most magical maples of them all offering unique colors and leafing out in the early spring as a coral melon pink with green veining throughout the leaf. This plant is named for its mid-summer coloration. Mid-summer colors are a warm rich amber with a deep green reticulation throughout the leaf. Fall colors are bright oranges to fire-engine reds. Arakawa – Acer Palmatum
Normally Acer Palmatum are known for their foliage. This unique, vigorous upright green Japanese maple however is valued for its prominent, deeply grooved , roughened, corky bark look, hence the plant’s alternative name of ‘Rough Bark Maple. The jagged roughness develops over 3 to 5 years as the juvenile growth matures. Slender, lobed leaves change to a dramatic bright and brilliant orange red in the Fall. With the added winter interest of the corky bark, Arakawa will provide year-round interest to the garden and landscape. Prune to expose the trunk and main limbs as it grows, so that you emphasize the bark features all year round.

Emperor 1 – Acer Palmatum Dissectum
‘Emperor 1’ also known as ‘Red Emperor’ is a vigorous growing hardy red Japanese maple with a graceful form with black-red bark. In later spring it’s veiled in dark red or deep maroon foliage with a brilliant translucent sheen that gives the leaves a nice shiny look as the sunlight hits them. Fireglow – Acer Palmatum
Aptly named for its red foliage Fireglow is one of the most desired maples. Vigorous and quite sun-tolerant it has a slow growing, upright bushy habit. ‘Fireglow’ leaf’s out as a bright red, before maturing to a deep maroon for the summer and avoiding the dark purples and dingy greens of many other ‘red-leaf’ maples. It will get an orange-red glow to the back side of the leaf when grown in the sun, giving the tree a brighter appearance, and making it glow, when looking up from below. Green Palmatum – Acer Palmatum Green Leaf
Acer palmatum is the original species, the very first Japanese Maple ever collected in the wild and propagated from seed for use in the landscape. The leaves of this lovely fast growing and sun tolerant maple stay green through the warm seasons, and then with the onset of cooler temperatures in fall they turn to shades of gold, orange and/or red. Though naturally lower-branched, as the tree grows lower branches can be removed to expose more trunk.

Extremely compact, dense, full, and multi-stemmed rare dwarf. ‘Hime’ means that the tree has smaller leaves, while ‘shojo’ describes its deep maroon summer color. The small delicate leaves are made up of 5 narrow fingers, and new growth emerges as a bright cherry red in the early spring and then turns to a deeper red burgundy as the season progresses. In full sun, and even in more shaded areas, this maple will retain its red color very well. During the fall, the foliage turns to an even darker shade of maroon. Inaba shidare - Acer Palmatum
An outstanding weeping Japanese maple and one of the best and resilient lace leaf cultivars for hotter climates. Its name means ” cascading ricelike leaf” and it differs from others of its type in its deep color and individual large leaf shape. Developing a deep tone of purple red or burgundy as they grow in the spring the leaves retain the deep color through the season. Fall color is magical as it turns from purple red to a bright fiery red . Although Inaba shidare does cascade it features a rather upright erect growing form and is vigorous and sturdy.

A thread Leaf Japanese Maple it has been described as the dancing monkey tree for the way the extremely narrow rich green colored lobes dance in the wind. An incredibly old cultivar, and one of the fastest growing of the variegated leaved Japanese Maples, which puts on a show throughout the season, spring summer and fall with its variegated leaves that can at times twist and turn in different directions. Its name is interpreted from the Japanese phrase “the rich colored fabric of the master” Leaves emerge painted pink, white and green in spring maturing to green and white or green for summer, then turning brilliant shades of pinkish-red to maroon in the fall. Fairly newly introduced this small, graceful, elegant pendulous tree has a perfect weeping habit and makes a remarkable addition to any garden with its unique form and exotic appeal. Originally named ‘Ryu sei’, which translates as “dragon spirit” this tree, since it is very sun resistant and can be grown in full sun, is a wonderful addition to a Southern landscape especially those that don’t have the shade that many Japanese maples need . Sango Kaku - Acer Palmatum
A beautiful, upright, large, slow-growing, vase-shaped form tree that typically grows over time to as much as 20-25’ tall. It is sometimes commonly called coral bark maple in reference to its distinctive, showy and magnificent bright pink, red bark which provides excellent color and contrast to landscapes in winter. Leaves that have five or seven ovate-acuminate lobes emerge a vibrant lush yellow-green with reddish margins in spring which fade as the leaves mature. This early red margin gives it a striking appearance during Spring. Leaves mature to light shade of green by summer.
